Welcome to the Month of July, 2025! Halfway through the year and 4C and the weather is not only heating up, but the storms are coming down hard. But Carolina Collaborative Community Care is still ready to assist as best we can in these summer days.

The weather has been intense recently, and more severe as the days pass. As always, we urge all those in our community to stay away from rivers and streams during times of storms, as there is the possibility for floods to occur. Make sure to have the necessary items on hand and to follow local guidelines in times of turbulent weather.

Now for a minor change of pace! This month is also the month we promote the importance of UV Safety, aka Staying safe from the sun's brutal heat!

A reminder of 5 Ways to beat the heat and to promote UV Safety in the Month of July!

Just as the graphic suggests, there are ways to keep the UV rays off your body so as not to cause much skin damage. Those ways are:

  • Bring an Umbrella (acting as portable shade); This alone is enough to lower temperatures due to creating a cooler location. Make sure the umbrella is brightly colored to help reduce heat absorption.

  • Wear a Hat; if bringing an umbrella is a bit much, the next best thing is wearing a hat, cap, or bonnet (your preference). This helps in keeping the eyes and face shielded to a degree.

  • Wear Sunglasses; YES, it is a good idea to do that due to UV radiation and bright lighting in general can and does impair vision.

  • Wear long-sleeve clothing; use with caution as most long-sleeve items may not provide adequate cooling; look for clothing that both is long, and also 'breathable' meaning it can help with keeping you cool!

  • Use Sunscreen! Let's be honest, summer is most commonly known for people wearing swimsuits and beating the heat by cutting down on the clothing worn. That being said, the best defense is quality sunscreen (SPF 30+ recommended) applied PRIOR to going out and about. In fact, it is recommended to make applying sunscreen an important part of your summer routine (especially if you are beach-bound or pool-bound)! As an added bonus, here's a video on the importance of using Sunscreen below:

We are also observing this month of July with Sarcoma Cancer Awareness Month. Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer; this is a type that develops in the body's connective tissues. These tissues include bone, muscle, fat, blood vessels, nerves, and tendons. Because of this, there are two known categories: Bone and Soft Tissue. Commonly, these types (while being able to take place anywhere in the body) are found near the arms and legs. Here, taking a personalized approach is the best option, but speak with your primary care provider to plan ahead.

Don't HAVE a Primary Care Provider? No Problem! We have a list of Primary Care Providers for Pediatric Care and Standard Care, that you can use by clicking on and downloading the PDF File below (Current as of January 16th, 2025):

As the months ahead slowly cool down, know that we at Carolina Collaborative Community Care (4C) will do what we can to help our community as best we are able, as there are always those in need of help and a desire to live with dignity and independence; this is fundamental to the Mission of working with our community partners, and every patient we can to keep patient-centered, well-coordinated, value-based CARE at the forefront of what we do. That is how we help promote a healthier community! We'll be out and about the community, doing our usual events like Fourth Friday, Kingdom Impact, Tight'N It Up, and more, so stay tuned and don't be shy to say hello to us!

Thank you for reading, and see you next month!
